Wood-plastic composite or WPC has built up as a preferred substitute to marine plywood; these materials are out there within various boards of varied thicknesses and sizes. Marine plyboard and WPC boards have similar characteristics – they're moisture-resistant, termite-resistant, appropriate for outdoor applications, and craft add moisture-laden areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
Here are the strengths and shortcomings of each of these materials.
Marine plywood
Marine plyboard is factory-made out of tropical hardwood and waterproof glue. It has no voids that make it a dense and waterproof material. Instead, the successive layers are arranged, so every grain crosses to the sheets higher than below to impart the most strength and stability. Plywood marine plyboard is treated with preservatives and a protecting end that produces it appropriate for outdoor applications.
Applications
Marine plyboard is employed to fabricate garden furnishings, tables, chairs, benches, pergolas, planters, and carpentry work.
Pros
- Marine plyboard is highly immune to water and controls water penetration.
- Nails, screws, and alternative fasteners will get a natural hold during this plyboard due to the cross-linking of multiple wood sheets at intervals.
- Another plus is that this material is versatile, bent, or arced without compromising its strength.
- The outer surface of the marine plyboard is incredibly vigorous, creating it suitable for applications in locations at risk of wear and tear.
Cons
- Marine plyboard could split or splinter over some time.
It is created with layers of natural wood that involve the
scaling down of trees.- This plyboard has to be finished with paint or stained. Thus
it can't be utilized in the raw kind.
Wood-plastic composite
Wood-plastic composite is a factory-made hybrid material from a mix of natural wood fiber, sawdust, plastic fibers, and chemical additives.
Applications
It is used as decking material and outside cladding and produces outside furniture and alternative carpentry work.
Pros
- WPC is extremely sturdy and proof against external weather components.
- WPC is thermoformed into any arced or bent form.
- Colored pigments are added to the raw material. Therefore WPC can be bleached to any color.
- The material is proof against ultraviolet light, and its color doesn't fade.
- Nails, screws, and alternative fasteners deliver the goods on an honest hold in WPC.
- This material is highly slip-resistant and functions excellently as an outdoor deck flooring.
- Wood Polymer composite doesn't need to be polished or painted after installation.
- It is straightforward to wash and maintain.
- WPC is formed from wood waste, making it sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Cons
- WPC is an artificial material that doesn't have the feel of natural wood.
- WPC cannot come in handy for flooring.
Cost comparison
- Good firms are providing 19-mm marine plyboard at ₹110-125 per square foot.
- 18-mm WPC boards are obtainable at ₹130-145 per square foot.

ReplyDeleteboth these materials are very costly i do not see any logic to use these material for making furniture.indoor or outdoor if it is still outdoor i do not see any chance plywood is going to survive. Use teak wood instead.
